Life is full of decisions—little choices we rarely think about until
something significant happens and shakes up the tedium of our day-to-day
life. Some of these significant circumstances arrive not on a gentle
breeze, which nudges us kindly along, but roars in like an arctic blast
and blows us to the ground.

Several years ago, a strong blast hit my life; it knocked me sideways
and landed me in a dark place. After too many days sitting in a pit of
indignation and bitterness, it became clear: something had to change.
This was not how I wanted to live my life. Some kind of change was
needed, but I felt uncertain how to proceed until a friend gave me a
small gift that altered my outlook and helped me out of my pit.
